Trust is earned, so no I do not trust a total stranger. However, like everyone else, a mutual fund manager has many outside factors which encourage him/her to behave in a trustworthy manner. This is not industry-specific. Besides, what is your investment alternative?

Fund managers are very sophisticated and knowledgable about the stock markets. However, no one can predict the future so they may not perform. Mutual funds are a good investment if you do not have a large capital base and need to diversify. Otherwise their fees may be too large to justify the returns they produce. Fees tend to be between 1 and 3 percent.
I personally just use an investment advisor to guide my portfolio and seem to do well in the good times and the bad times. You can check him out if you like: http://www.andrewjohns.ca

No, they are salesmen. They make money off of you. I don't think they are particularily dishonest or immoral, they just have a conflict of interest.
Stick with Index funds - lower cost ratios and over time they beat individually selected managed mutual funds hands down. Its just too hard to pick a managed fund that will be a winner year after year. And overtime you will save a bundle in expenses by selecting index funds.

Why would you not trust the manager of a mutual fund? They are paid on the size of the fund they manage. The larger the fund grows the more money they earn. Do you think that you could pick a better stock portfolio for yourself than a mutual fund manager. Investing for some may be a hobby. But if you don't invest wisely you will not have enough money to retire on and that will be no fun. Allow professionals to do their craft. Everyone wins. Please see my profile for my credentials.

Not really. That's why I primarily use Index Mutual Funds, in which the portfolio is predetermined and ran by a computer.

No I don't. I take all the risk, put up the money and they get a good portion of that reward. I only trust myself when it comes to investing my money.
