Thermistor, pressure check and also check the big orange tank called the expansion vessell unscrew the dustcap and push pin just quickly to check if its water or air that comes out if its water this needs replacing never known a diverter to cause this prob.

May be worth checking the hot water thermistor, these sometimes go wrong and can cause various problems including the boiler tripping out when hot water is being run. The noise MAY be caused by low pressure although generally if the pressure's at 0.5 bar or less then neither the heating or hot water will work at all.

does sound like a blockage in the plate heat exchanger or connecting pipes.if the divertor was stuck, the primary hot water would be pumped round heating cicuit.the rumbling is the hot water starting to boil, that would explain why the 100 degree saftey stat is popping out.pipes inside boiler need to be stripped and cleaned

Could be the diverter valve sticking, if it doesn't do it in heating mode it is unlikely to be much else, if the groaning is after a few seconds, and is like a rumble, then trips on overheat, it may then be a blockage in the water-water heat exchanger.

Have you checked the water pressure level. Our one has a meter and occasionally we have to top the water pressure up.
