You do bleed a lot (for several weeks) as your uterus expels the extra fluids and blood from the pregnancy, but it's not technically a period.

This bleeding lasts from 3-8 weeks and starts off heavy and then gets lighter and turns to brownish pink before tapering off altogether.

You will notice this bleeding just hours after delivery and will need to wear maxis for a long time.

It really depends on the individual. I know a few women who didn't get their periods for about 6 months after giving birth, but others who had their period for weeks right after birth.

it's not really a "period". It much worse (at least for me it was). Depending on how you had birth (c-section or vaginal) you get stretched out. In some cases you might have a eposiomity. Basic the doc cuts you to help make room for baby to come out. You bleed really bad (like they put a diaper pad on you) for awhile. They give you stuff to help with the pain (wipes and stuff) and may prescribe medicine for it. I gave birth last week and now I'm not bleeding at all. They say it can last a week to 2 weeks of bleeding. Again depends on how you gave birth.

You have a discharge which can last up to 6 weeks. Nothing very much. Probably nature's spring cleaning exercise, but it means that you have to wear protection. After that it is months and months before you can expect to have a period, which will be the same as ever it was. Breast feeding is said to delay the onset of menstruation.

personally, I bled for a little while after my c-section. But I didn't get my actual period until 6 weeks after my son was born.
I have heard that if you are breast feeding, that will delay your period.
Every woman is different, my length of time didn't last longer than any other period I had.

Most women bleed after the baby is born for up to 6 weeks and then should go back to their regular schedule of their period execpt if they are breastfeeding. Sometimes women dont have their period when they breast feed.

You do bleed, it is not called a period, but it does last for 2-4 weeks. It is because of all of the blood vessles in your uterus that where attached to the placenta are open, and working on closing. that and any lining that is left in your uterus needs to come out. It is perfectly normal to have it. As far as I know everyone gets it.
