Set a WPA pssword to keep most people out
Turn off SSID broadcast so they can not see your network
Turn off DHCP and change the default IP address range so that they do not get an IP from my router should they get by the password
Turn of MAC filtering to only allow the PCs I approve access to the network should they get an IP

If they get by all that, record the information and report them to the authorities.

Honestly, your best bet is to shut your network down when you go to bed at night. Another way to prevent theft is to select thte option to not advertise your SSID in broadcast, that way someone will have to know your SSID before they can even see if your network is active.

first of and most important change your access password...most of wirless routers have default well known passwords. include mix of letters and numbers.

speaking of packet sniffers...there are tons of software...just google it.
