The field this person claims to have a PhD in is Vocal Pedagogy. She uses this fake PHD to get clientele. She also uses it at seminars.

If this is illigal, how do I turn her in? What is the charge? What could the punishment be?

How do you know it is fake, and how does she use it to make money?

She is teaching opera singing? For the record you do not need a degree to teach singing. Legally, anyone can be a voice teacher, regardless of degree or experience. They may not be able to teach in many institutions that require a degree but they are allowed to teach singing privately. Misrepresentation of academic accomplishments may be a reason for termination of employment and might be considered fraud if she is charging based on the claim of a degree. It could be the basis of a law suit if you were dissatisfied with her teaching but I don't think it is likely that the police will seriously investigate a voice teacher for lack of accreditation if that is the only charge.

I am going to give you a star for interesting just because I had to look up pedagogy. I don't learn new words that often anymore :)

Why would you want to do this??? How do you know for a fact that she doesn't have a PhD?? Unless you KNOW it for a fact, you really can't do anything and it is unethical for you to do so. The only way you can KNOW for a FACT is to find out what school she is claiming to have her PhD from and get it in writing from the school that she does not have a PhD. Usually, schools don't release that information without written consent from their students.

So, if you don't have it in writing from the university - no one will believe you. You really need to find a different hobby... There's such little time in this world - and you should spend it on getting a PhD for yourself.

PLUS, you could find yourself at the other end of a lawsuit for defamation and libel. Which means you could end up owing her $100,000+ for lying about her.

It is not illegal to lie about your credentials - just unethical.
