societies' morals are the main reason behind most laws. We elect representatives that pass laws that represent our values. So the first post is a good one--the societies' moral values. It may also help spread sexually transmitted disease, although I don't know about studies on whether it will occur more often or not and the repercussions of making it legal.

Prostitution is immoral it creates disorder and anarchy in the streets, it is certainly not a good exemple for the children, how would you explain your kids that a woman can be used as a sexual object if that were legal?, beside the moral side of it prostitutes spread diseases such as HIV and others.

If you think that's not enough reason to keep it illegal then think of this, tourists (at least many of them) don't like visiting places full of prostitution and moral mischieve.

While there is way more reasons to legalize it, I'd go with crime as a reason to keep it illegal. As much the problem with prostitution is the violence from pimps, crazy johns, etc.
