For example, Modest Mouse has a song and it ends with "You wasted life/Why wouldn't you waste the afterlife?" and at "life" the song ends.

Do you like that, or do you prefer for the music to slowly end after the lyrics finish?

For a really upbeat song, it's probably the best ending you could have. I mean, what's the point if a fast song fades out? Why not just end it with a bang like it started? But for soft, romantic songs, I like it to fade out....that adds romanticism to it...
But other than that, I love songs that end abruptly!

It depends on the song. I don't particularly like songs that drag on either. Some songs I'd prefer they'd just get to the point rather than singing more than necessary.

some songs call for it. I'm on to prefer the track to ride out so you can feel the music, but like I said, some you just cant do it with. There's this song by Chamillionare and he's going on and on and then he says "thats when she told me she didnt shoot him she gave him AIDS" and the track drops right there. But it was called for and it emphasized what he was saying

It depends on what type of song we are talking about. I like the hard rockers to end abruptly.

i really really hate it its really annoying the whole point of a song is for it to be like...a song and i always think of a song kinda gradually fadeing out otherwise it sounds unfinished

thats fine with me.. as long as it leaves you hanging and makes you think, or listen more closely the next time...

movies that end abrupty are great for that reason.. go see No Country for Old Men and you'll see what I'm saying

quickly. I really can't stand it when the song repeats itself over and over.
