How do you do it? Do you need to do it in the summer when windows can be open or can you do it in the winter? How long does it take? Will there be fumes in the house?

You want to follow the directions to the letter as set out in your owner's manual. On my oven, the least amount of time I can set for self-clean is 2 1/2 hours and the longest I think is 4 1/2 hours. I can choose anything in between those times depending on how dirty the oven is.

There won't be any fumes, but you will smell a burnt kind of smell. During the self-clean mode, the oven basically sets itself to heat at an incredibly high heat and it literally burns off all food particles and residue that is in the oven. Afterwards, you will see a white or gray ash in the oven -- this you can simply wipe out with a damp (not wet) cloth. You can do it anytime of year though I do it more often in Spring, Fall or Winter because the oven does put off such heat that it can warm up the kitchen too much for me in the summer. Always do the self-clean at a time when you can be home to keep an eye on things.

Just turn the oven to self clean and lock the door to the oven (make sure you don't need to use the oven for the next 2-4 hours) and then I take a rag or sponge and clean it out after it is cool there is no fumes and you can do it whenever you like open windows or not you choice. All it does is heat the oven up really hot and burn the stuff off and makes it sterile

It takes 3 hours. Can be done anytime. If the oven has a lot of drippings it can be smelly. Make sure you take the racks out. They become oxidized if you don't. Lock the oven door if there is a lock some are automatic. Then turn your oven dial to clean. After 3 hours turn off if it isn't automatic. Wait a few hours for the oven to cool completly before you wipe out any ashes with a damp sponge.

I try to do the oven self-clean thing when it can augment the furnace. Since I'm burning up all that power anyway I may as well get a little heat out of it.
My oven allows several levels and I've found that 6 hours does an adequate job since I'm not that fussy about it.

Didn't notice any fumes and the smoke alarms never triggered.

There's usually a lever on the oven to lock it and then you turn all dials to the clean setting. The oven will self clean for usually 2-3 hours...the smell isn't great..some ventilation would help. you can open the oven about 30 minutes after it's finished. Mine works great. Good luck.

there will be no fumes at all just heat.you can clean it anytime, it doesn't matter. It has a timer you can set on how long you want it to run..the shortest on mine is 3 hours and i let it go 2 hours if the oven isn't bad and upper the hours depending on how dirty it is.no you don't need to open windows..just pull the handle to the right hit clean oven and do timer and wait til it stops..you wont beable to open the oven until it has cooled down, safety ,then wipe down after done..Make sure you take your rakes out due to the will turn color.

Not sure about your question. Please clarify. .... Do you have a "Self Cleaning Oven" or are you (yourself) wanting to know how to clean your oven.?? If you are going to clean it yourself, just get a spray can of oven cleaner, turn off pilot light, if it has one, open the window or door and put down some newspapers and spray it on the burnt areas and let sit for a couple of hours. And wipe off.

Make sure the oven is locked, then set the clean mode. Kepp children away. Then let it cool down and sweep out the dust.

If you are using oven cleaner, you'll want gloves and an open window.
