. Why people do not get it is beyond me , Maybe it is that we as Americans are stupid. We know that the same nations that have free health care also have free higher education. So therefor they are ahead in math and science as well.

Because our health care system is not designed for prevention, and it does a horrible job at making health care readily available for mid to lower class people who tend to have more health problems that make things like preterm birth more common. I work in the industry and I've seen pregnant women who have been told to be on bed rest by their doctors who refuse to quit working because they will lose their jobs or go utterly broke if they do. This creates preterm birth which leads to serious fetal developmental disabilities and infant mortality. Only in America.

Infant mortality rates continue to increase in the United States because our government continues to allow the flood of illegal aliens into this country. Illegal aliens are mostly poor, uneducated and many have health issues. We are one of the richest nations on earth....but we are being forced to take care of a third world population!!

different countries have different criteria to classify a birth as "live". some countries don't count babies born before 26 weeks and other countries have a weight cut-off. The US counts all births where the baby shows any sign of life.

no universal health care
our system is set up like a 3rd world country, except that most of the people you and i know are party of the "privledged" that can afford insurance becuase of our jobs

i believe the answer is in the actions of the pregnant mothers during the pregnancy...if they aren't taking the proper steps, issues will occur...which does not require health care. thats what you are trying to get at with this question...it should go back to personal accountabilitiy....but that is a bad word for most liberals

The reason why, is because here in the US doctors aren't allowed to do somethings that ARE allowed in other countries. Chinese medicine, stuff like that...
At least the gov't doesn't pay for it...
