printer was working fine yesterday, and now all of a sudden I get an error message saying that it can't communicate with the computer. It appears to be off line, and the suggestions given on the error message say to log off and back on, check printer cable and USB port, and I have done those things, but it doesn't help. The website tells me to check and see if the firewall is blocking it, but I don't know where to find the firewall or if I even have one. (I'm not very computer knowledgeable) Can anyone help to get my printer functioning again? Ten points to the expert who can do it. Thanks so much!

have tons of problems with my printer and vista as well. most of the time you just have to mess around with it. i will start with the basics. To view your printer status, click on control panal>printers>and at the bottom of the screen you can view what you printer is doing. If it sais offline next to "printer status", right click on you printer name (probably Lexmark x1185 if you didnt change it), then click use printer online. if that doesnt work, you will have to send more information.
hope this helps:)

I would go on control panel where it says printer and other hardware click that then it will say printer and faxes you just click on that it will show you what you have for a printer. after that click printer if its saids off line click on to default printer...if that don't work click on network and internet connection then once you do that it will show you where your fire wall is it will be a Icon it will look a brick wall click on to that then it will say
