If my children lived ten years with the mother making 50 k per year and the father making $400K the last three years and the wife gets the kids 75% of the time, you STILL don't believe that alimony is needed?

What are they teaching you young women in school?

This us reality, not women's lib or misogynist fantasy land.

Ok. I rant. It is frustrating to see women do more and more to their own detriment.

If the woman above was not given alimony, these same women would call her horrible if she said, "He has the money, let him raise them." and gave them to him, only to see them a few times a month.

I declined alimony. It's the 21st century, I have a good job and make my own money and I don't need my ex-husband's cash. His responsability is with his child and not with me.

Women, yes you can stand on your own feet.

Now, if the spouse was/is a homemaker, then alimony is needed until they get a job.

Good luck

What exactly is your point and or your question? I don't get it?!

If the ex (whether wife or husband) makes that much more - child support would go up accordingly!

Alimony is something completely different - has to do with helping the stay at home mom adjust and work on getting on her own feet...and that shouldn't last much more than a year or two depending on how old the kids are (so mom can stay home until they go to school).

I'm all for alimony especially when there is such a vast difference in income and income potential. Not all states are alimony states, but the women that are entitled to it should get it.

For all of those women out there that think alimony should not be allowed, I can only say if and when the time comes you should be entitled to it, I wonder if you will be singing the same tune.

What planet do you live on that you can't raise children on 50K a year plus child support???????

Just because you think you should be able to eat your cereal with silver spoons doesn't mean you are living in the real world.

I'm not saying he should not pay alimony, but get real. I was laid off in january and am STILL looking for a job, do NOT live off welfare or social security and have two children at home. They have a good roof over their heads, food, and decent clothes, and a mother and father who are divorced and who both love them. He helps by giving me (without being ordered to) extra money every week to make sure his children have what they need until I'm back on my feet.

Guess it's about the quality of the person you married, not how much they make.

Child Support, yes. Alimony, no.

It is what the judge decides what is the right thing to do.
