I am beginning to believe that it is going far to far even to the borders of out rageousness.
So, I have every intention of ignoring it as best and when ever I can.

Yes Ron, you could easily be right.

Depends.

There is a thing called courtesy. Most things that are courteous are 'politically correct' and examples of that are not called physically disabled people spastics or black people nig-gers. With regards to these things, we should be 'politically correct' though I prefer to think of it as being considerate.

However there are things that are just stupid, the examples given about Father Christmas's saying 'Ho, Ho, Ho' and banning 'Baa, baa black sheep' being but two examples. And yes, for those things, being PC is nothing more than cat piddle and doggy doo.

My work place is full of political correctness. There are thing you are not supposed to say or "you will be in trouble." I treat these rules with the contempt they deserve and totally ignore them and I have never been challenged yet. No-one can control the way I think and unless I break some law they can't control the way I speak. Just ignore Political correctness and no-one can do a thing about it.

In any case who decides what is politically correct and what is not? Where is it written down what is acceptable to say and what is not? Did they pass a law banning free speech?

Treat political correctness with contempt and if anyone questions you when you do that ask them which law you are breaking.

Yes I do.
The problem is that both of the things you mention have to be dealt with or they can really stink up your house, and eventually ruin it's value.
Someone mentioned what real estate agents can say and what they cannot.
It is getting to the point that you cannot say anything substantive about the property at all. Almost anything we could say about a property can be construed as steering.
The regulations that govern our behavior have a tremendous impact on our ability to do our jobs.
Now if someone asks me if I would live in a neighborhood, I have to tell them that I cannot give them an opinion, all I can do is advise them to drive through the area and decide for themselves if they want to live there. That is all well and good for people who live in the area, but it becomes a problem for those who are depending on me to advise them from afar.

You're insulting cat piddle and doggy doo by saying that political correctness is the same as they are. Political correctness is much lower than they are.

Hear, hear!

Political correctness is merely an attempt to have the majority of people appease the minority of people, just to shut them up.

It started when a bunch of minorities got together and supported each other against the perceived "common enemy". They made a few good points--Mankind ought to be humankind, and racial slurs are a bad thing. But then they took it too far, and made this country afraid to offend anybody.

NEWS FLASH TO THE WORLD!!!

3+2=9 isn't creative, it's WRONG.

If you act like a stereotype, you should expect to be called the term appropriate to that stereotype.

If you come to this country, learn our ways. If you want to live like you did in "The old country", GO BACK THERE!

If you don't like your neighbor, move. Don't expect them to change just because you moved in next door.

The secret to happiness is LOWER EXPECTATIONS. A 10 year old Corsica is better than walking, so stop complaining that you don't have a Camaro!

the problem here is: power within and among cultures behaves, in some ways, like a limited and tangible quantity -- you cannot take power without it being taken from someone else, at least from their perspective (however limited).

for example, when women were finally elevated from effable cattle to actual citizens (late) during the 20th century, it no longer was appropriate (or politically correct) to call them "broads" or "dames" in the workplace. it also was no longer as easy to force them to have sex to improve their job standings...how awful all this politcal correctness if for america? awww...i long for the good ol' days...

so for women to take their deserved power, they had to deprive men of some of the power they had. this theft does not go over easy. sure, most reasonable folks don't see it as bad that our wives and sisters arent being forced to felate their supervisors (heck, some of those wives and sisters are the supervisors!), but here we are now, kvetching because we arent allowed to use those good ol' words anymore.

it may seem petty that society expects you to be careful about using offensive or hurtful language, but this is only because it's not you that feels hurt and offended by it.

but arent many of the anti PC people the same ones who always so butt-hurt about the assault on christianity? hmm, maybe everyone should be more politically correct toward christians...wouldnt want to hurt anyone's feelings...

Yes and no. The overly-politically-correctness that's abundant is ridiculous, but the first wave took a lot of hurtful or offensive words off the table.

If your sister has Down syndrome, for instance, you might take offense at the word "retard," although it might not bother someone else. That's the sort of thing the first use of PC seemed to be addressing. I think the original intent of PC was to get people to consider the potential for offense before speaking.

Of course now it's reached a level that's hilarious.

Political correctness is worse than that.

It's just a way to give you a perception of socialist protection of your rights by giving you nothing at all.

N****r is wrong. But the position of "color people" in society hasn't change.
Indian is wrong. But the position of "native americans" in society hasn't change.
Mentally deficient is wrong. But the problems of living as a "person with different abilities" have not been solved.

Real Estate Agents and Brokers are not allowed to say Master Bedroom anymore, its the Main Bed Room or so.
It's funny, that our officials have nothing better ot do. We must be in excellent shape.

ah yes it has, in the begining it certainly was intended to open some debate and challenge some of the stigmas that in fact could be debilitating to some members of society but now it has left the planet of give us a break set hopefully never to return.
