You can have any person do it really, as long as its properly witnesses and in legal format therefore valid. If your friend doesn't mind doing it for you and you feel comfortable telling him all the details then go for it

Well, it could be - how do you feel about this person knowing your financial and marital issues in detail?
I do know that our family had a family member who did everyone else's will. He turned out not to be a great lawyer, and people didn't want to say when they weren't satisfied because of the personal relationship.
You have to be comfortable being totally straight and up-front with your lawyer, just as you do with your doctor. This is a business relationship - can you all treat it as such and not as part of your friendship?

Have him recommend an attorney to you for this. Discussing private financial matters while doing a will through a friend can be difficult. Explain to him that you appreciate his offer, but feel a bit uncomfortable.

Find another. My buddy is a lawyer and blabs WAY too much about mutual friends' decisions and money. Your finances ain't gonna be a secret.

I think that if you trust your friend, go for it. Anything you tell him is subject to attorney/client privilege anyway. And as most wills for the average person are done in geralizations (the house goes to this person, the collection of Encyclopedias goes to that person...), I wouldn't worry about it.

That's up to you. Personally, I wouldn't want to be telling my personal financial business to anyone close to me....on the other hand, as an attorney they are sworn to keep your information confidential, so if anything leaks out you would know who to sue.

If your friend is willing to do it at a price that's good for you go for it, it's good you are thinking about this and are planing on getting it done.

A lot of solicitors do a freebie once a year with a charity donation. You can also do a will on-line.
