Sometimes it does this, sometimes it doesn't. But it does it enough so that it's going around that we are all going to have to pitch in to buy a new one. I can't afford that, and I can't go job searching right now so I hoping this can be fixed.

You put in a time and press start. The microwave works but then shuts off after about 8 or 10 seconds. It took 6 tries to get my oatmeal cooked this morning. What would cause a microwave to shut off after about 8 or 10 seconds repeatedly? But not always?

Bad news AJ. The 99% answer is that you have electronics issues. Only possible hope is that you have a GE brand M/W and are getting a thermal shut down.

Way to test for this issue is try running on the lowest power setting for a minute with a cup of water in the M/W. If the test goes without issue, then you do it again with a higher power setting about 50% then 75% etc.

If you have a temp sensor issue when the temp gets to hot inside the M/W it shuts down then resets.

Most likely you have a thermal short on one of the boards. When enough voltage has gone thorugh the board it gets warm and breaks a circuit. Easiest way to fix it unless you have a unit under warranty is to spend $50-75 and get a new M/W.

Sorry.

Check the wiring, some microwaves need a higher voltage input, try moving it to a different more powerful power socket, sometimes it is a lack of power generated. If your home's sockets can't provide enough voltage consider testing it someplace else, and if it works sell it and buy a new one. If this does not solve the problem, check the cable to make sure it is clean and no damage to it, remove anything inside the microwave that is removable including the plate and try with nothing in it. This is to test if it is a problem with the plate rotator. So if the microwave does not rotate consider repairing that. If none of these solutions solve the problem then it is probably a conductor or transformer in the microwave that sometimes can get replaced for cheap amounts. Bring it to a repair shop and see if they can give you a free estimate to the cost.

DON'T USE THAT MICROWAVE!

There's something wrong with the wiring in it. That's what the last microwave my husband and I had did before it gave up the ghost. And it played havoc with the wiring in the kitchen too.

It probably would be cheaper to get a new microwave than to have the one you have repaired.

You have to turn it way up and then turn it down to how long you need it timed.
