ors says, "A student whose main activity on campus is running a business is missing the basic reason for being here, which is to get an education." Do you agree or disagree? Explain.

I really don't see why one couldn't get an education while running a business as well. It does get worrisome if one isn't focused on their reason for being there, which is getting an education, although these days college is being equated as a career vocational school by many, but I digress. They can be separate activities. I mean, just because I'm in college doesn't mean I'm going to stop seriously pursing outside activities. And plus, if a student is getting a business degree, then wouldn't that be applying what they learn?

I think everyone has their own basic reason for being there. Some want to be brain surgeons. Some want to run a business. The educator you spoke of must have wanted an education to teach. It's odd he would expect everyone who goes to have the same reason for going.

When I was young I asked my mother if she had ever wanted to know EVERYTHING. I felt like I would really like to know everything that I could, and that it would all be interesting.
She laughed and said,"Well, I thought I wanted to know everything once, but then I took a course in geology, and I realized there are some things I can really do without knowing." I still laugh about that. :-)

disagree... launching a business helps the students to apply what they are learning. For example, if they are taking a human sexuality course or an anatomy course and they begin a 24 hour massage business they could learn about the parts of the body much more quickly.
