Plants are living organisms. The better you understand their needs, the more "green" your thumb will be. If you really want to have plants, I suggest you get some good books about plants. You'll learn things like: over watering can cause root rot; always allow new plants to adjust to their new surroundings before doing anything major like repotting; isolate new plants in case they have bugs; many bugs can be gotten rid of by using a spray bottle filled with water and a bit of liquid soap; when you water your plants, the water should be at room temperature; don't feed plants that have new soil (it can burn the roots); how to make new plants from cuttings (it's great fun to share), and much, much more.

Crtainly. But it took a lot of practice. I had many plants die at my hands until I figured it out, and since then it's been easy and they all grow like weeds.
