I came home yesterday and my laundry room was destroyed and my dog's cage was moved around and boxes were all over the place and there was no evidence of tampering with my front door...plus I have a dead bolt. I stay in an apartment complex and my maintenance guy is ALWAYS around my building. I literally see him every single day and he always goes out of his way to speak to me. No one but myself and my husband and maintenance have the key. What can I do with no proof? I don't have any type of surveillance electronics nor do I have the money to get any. Please help me because I'm getting really scared.

You could tell the apartment manager about your worries and see if he might have a viable solution for a problem like this. I, too would be scared, especially after the mess inside of your apartment and his untimely lurking whenever you are around. Is is possible to put another lock like a pad lock on the outside of the door? Or change the locks without telling anyone. Maybe you need to find someone who can go with you to your apartment at all times so that you don't have to go there alone anymore. But at least talk to the manager or supervisor, not the maintenance man, and let them know of this problem. Good luck!

Clean up the mess first, it may be the dog.

Have you ask the manager to see they had to enter for any reason? Possible, dog was causing ruckus, dog can get that way in a new place.

Re-arrange the room to secure the cage so it does not move if the dog gets spooked.

But, check your lease, see what it says about entering the place. The man must inform you ahead of entry, but for an emergency. Must have reason for entry. If lease permits add a lock and do not provide the key.

If some one entered your place it may not be the guy you know or this maintenance man, there are people who can pick any lock.

Maintenance man, may be just friendly, be glad that he is nice and goes out of the way to be nice to you, give him a nice tip at coming Holiday, this will establish the relationship that you are the boss, (you give this out, do not have your husband give it to him), and he is the servant, but other wise just keep it to good morning, good evening.

Cannot, must not, just jump to the conclusion, but, it is always good to be care full.

If you can, call the police in confidence and see if they will dust the place for finger prints it is a messy thing to do.

You can buy a security camera for under $100.0 at most discount store.

Since you got no proof yet, even if you call the police they couldn't help you either. Even if your maintenance guy is around all the time it doesnot mean he is the usual suspect. If you think he is stalking you, try the reverse method, stalk him instead to gather more proof, since what you got is just pure guessing game, this time you will have your proof, what if it is another person, the list include your husband too, & other neighbors you got there in the building.

You do not have to be scared it's a matter of common sense & little detective work. You donot have a camcorder in the house, try hiding it so that it could view the front door and leave it ON while you were gone so that it could record the minutes you were gone then view it and presto! you got the person who intrude in your house.

Make a police report every time this happens. In some towns the police will lend you a video camera that will start recording when there is movement. Ask the local police for help.

Try talking to the manager of your complex and tell him/her how you are feeling a little bit uncomfortable. Maybe he/she will give you options of how you can deal with the situation. Talking to the cops might help you also. I'm sorry I can't really think of anything else to tell you. Good luck and stay safe!

Oh dear.

Well, you do know that SOMEONE was in your home without your permission. Talk to the police anyway, and tell them you suspect a stalker. Hopefully they will increase surveillance in your area.

Good luck!

Him having the only other key should be enough evidence to contact the police. You really should and let them advise you on what you can do.

Tell someone in law enforcement what you suspect. Then go and purchase the strongest pepper spray allowable for your state and keep it with you always.

I'd get a gun. Thats just me. If you can't prove anything than just protect yourself. Get a survalace camera incase someone breaks in again.
