You need to know what You want in the laptop, and what you'll be using it for.
Is it for games? Work? Entertainment?
What kind of processor do you want?
Is weight a factor?
What size screen?
Harddrive size?
Burn DVD's?
Soundcard?
USB ports?
Webcam and Mic?

If you're not sure about these, go shop around at one of the major computer retailers....the Best Buy guys tend to know their stuff, and can usually point you in the right direction for your needs.

Shop around, and find what you're going to be happy with. Best Wishes.

I bought a laptop a couple of weeks ago and I think it is a real bargain. It was an Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1705. If you are in the UK, it cost me £299 at a shop called STAPLES. This shop is an office furniture and accessory shop. It is quite basic but does everything like emails, office, chat, wireless etc and runs fast enough for all that . Hope this helps

You have to decide what you need it for. ALWAYS research battery life if you want to use it away from home/office. I bought one and the battery seems to last five minutes. Then, if it is purely for word processing/ internet surfing, they will all do the job. Just look for one with the most RAM (internal memory) in them. The more MB of RAM it has the better. A gaming machine needs more of everything. Gaming laptops cost a fortune. Hope that helps.

We need more info to offer advice.

Will you need to play games on it, watch dvds, does it need to be lightweight, how big a screen do you want, does it have to have vista or xp as the operating system. How important is battery life. Does it need wireless internet? The list goes on.

Let us know what you want to do with it, and we can help. I can recommend 2 or 3 laptops, each are great in their own way, but i could quite easily be recommending ones that are not suitable for your needs!

forget pc world.. they over charge on things.. and the staff know not so much.. e.g. i asked for an an pc internal fan.. the dopey assistant took me to where the fans for DESKS are.

netgear router = £100 there, about 2 months ago.. ebuyer=£55

so how do they justify such rip off prices?

find what spec u need for what u want.. .forget vista basic, get premuim,, and try to get 2gb memory or 1gb at least.

if you want it for gaming get a desktop pc, as laptops gfx card wise aren't so good when it comes to upgrading..

i have an acer, old one, not dual core, but works good enough..

have a look at

http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Computers/cat/Laptops

and also the unbiased reviews.. used that company for years because they are good.

tesco also do a few laptops in their shops, the samsung r70 and fujitsu one looked pretty good.
