I'm just wondering why oh why this Lotus Elise is so cheap considering its awesome hot look? Maybe its the engine a? Coz it's like 1.8 4 cyl. 190 hp. Its pretty weak but still the car looks great.

American version boasts an amazing road handling grip of over 1.0G, a sub 5 second 0-60, a top speed of 150 mph and twin piston front brakes quickly stop an ultra-light curb weight of less than 2000 lbs. The entire chassis is light weight hydro formed aluminum, the body is an aerodynamically shaped composite and the motor is an ultra high revving power-plant from Toyota producing over 100 horsepower per liter. All of this performance for a class leading price of around $40,000.

Its removable roof sits 5 inches closer to the ground than the Miata's top, and it is 6 inches shorter than a Pontiac Solstice.

There's nothing particularly wrong with the car. The simple thing is the market, the Elise (and most Lotus cars) has been stripped of all extra to save weight and make them more agile. This unfortunately means that they cater to a smaller market (particularly racers) so Lotus has to sell them for somewhat of a cheap price to get them off the showroom floor.

It might be cheap because its uncomfortabe, it doesnt have cup holders, air conditioners or heaters. It might not come with a radio. 190HP is alot for an Elise because its a light weight car. It can go from 0-60mph more than a second faster than a 300HP Ford Mustang GT. It is aso hard to find parts for the Lotus and its expensive for maintemence and insurance.

It's not cheap by fact that it's original US MSRP was supposed to have been in the low to mid-30k but by the time it was over it was introduced in the US at 39.5k. Now they are even more expensive.

As for it being weak, you obviously haven't driven one. You should also research what power to weight ratios are and you'll understand why 190hp is plenty for that car especially in Euro trim.
