There are up sides and down sides to buying a real tree. First of all, you will need a tree stand and a tree skirt. Also, be ready for a mess! The pine needles definitely tend to fall off. You will have to bring an old blanket or sheet with you to the Christmas tree lot so they can put the tree on top of your car and so it won't scratch the top. When you look at trees, becareful as most of them are sprayed green to hide the dead branches. Then you will need help carrying the tree inside and setting it up. Be ready to get poked by the pine needles! Make sure to water the tree every other day and there will be a mess from the needles. Don't vacuum them, pick them up by hand. Also, a real tree might dry out by Christmas if you put it up on Thanksgiving, maybe you should put it up the first week of December. Lastly, be ready for a mess when you take it down and throw it away. The good thing about real trees is that your house will smell so good! Good luck!

You do not want to put a real tree up any sooner than 7-10 days before Christmas, it will get too dried out, and can catch fire easily.... If you do buy a tree, try to buy from someone who has a fresh shipment....then cut some of the bottom off, and put it into a stand almost immediately...one that holds Water...I always add an aspirin...keep the resoirvoir filled with water to keep your tree fresher, then decorate with lights and Ornaments etc. Do not leave the tree unattended with the lights on. Hope this helps...Merry Christmas!

Christmas Trees that are precut and shipped out usually don't last more than a month. In my personal opinion a fresh cut tree will last a little bit longer. I love real christmas trees my favorite is the douglas fur. It smells good. I will never buy a fake tree. Make sure you water it often and buy the powder that you add to the water. This is supposed to make it last longer.

Just make sure the needles arn't falling off. Give it a good shake and if needles start falling then the tree is no good. Other than that you just sorta pick something that fits the spot (hight/width) of the place you want it. And a tree stand w/ water in it will be fine and get you past christmas when you can then chuck it out the door.

When you bring the tree home, immediately put it in a bucket of water and add some sugar. One cup of sugar to one gallon of water. As the water evaporates, add more sugar water. This will act as additional sap and keep the tree moist and healthy. Add sugar water as needed. Don't let it dry out and hopefully the needle's will stay on a long time....There's nothing like a real Christmas tree.

If you want tit to last a long time buy one with a root ball - so basically youre' not displaying a dead tre. kep it outside until quite close to christmas and don't keep it near a radiator. Then when you have done with it you can plant it out or pot it up for next year. When we ran out of space in our garden for ex-Christmas tres, we just planted them in a nearby wood. If you buy one without roots the needles will drop one way or another - you have no guarente that it is freah out the ground, unless you go to a dig your own place.
Real trees smell wonderful!

Of course have a tree stand. Have some type of sheet down so that when needles fall off they don't get in your carpet, and later on you step on a needle. I've had that one happen before :) Always constantly check that there is plenty of water for the tree. And hopefully you don't have any allergies to it!
Good luck!
