Increase popular opinion that sexual immorality is a disgrace?
Make aware of the disease rates, and the knowledge that there are 'super bugs' out there?
Show examples that sexual immorality is the start of the down-fall of a young life, - even without a pregnancy?
Allocate the sufficent authority between parents and offspring?
Denounce popular culture media as counter-productive to the welfare of young-lives futures?

Nothing! It is part of being human and pretending humans are not sexual beings, including teens, will fail. In fact STD's are on the rise in this age group per USA today and the associated press recent article. Pregnancy rates are down obviously due to contraception and the AM after pill. But the STD rates and the fact 64% of young men and 62% of young women have had sex by their senior year, per the same source, shows young people have sex period. Also they are prone to do the oppisite of what society wants, the more they hear do not do it etc. the more they are inclined to do so. I also aggree with an earlier post, there is nothing wrong with teens having sex, it is natural and normal, but they should be 16+, in a committed relationship, use protection and all info available to them before making the decision. There is no reason to have an unintended pregnancy with all the options available, and std's can be avoided via faithfull and communicative partners.

Parents have to know where their kids are, who they are with and what they are doing at all times. I know this seems hard, but it's the only way.
Parents should definatly encourage a completley open relationship with their children. They need to tell them that no matter what they do, they'll help them get through it and love them no matter what. If a child feels she can come to her parents or at least one parent and say.. "Mom.. I'm thinking about having sex" or "Mom.. I had sex last night.." That doesn't prevent it from happening.. but it can prevent life changing events such as pregnancy or AIDS.
It's important for parents to know that in today's world.. sex is almost nothing to teenagers. With all the music being about sex and TV and movies portraying sex to be nothing more than a past time activity.. our kids don't think about it the same way we did 20 years ago.
As far as schools go.. they need to better educate children ages 12 and up about pregnancy.. STD's.. and also the EMOTIONAL effects of having sex. If you do it too early.. it can be very harmful to your emotional health.. and that's a point that they often leave out.
It's very important that we make it a point to these kids today.. and make sure that every single one of them has someone that they can trust. If we don't.. we're looking at a world full of preganant 12 year olds and STD's. That's not how America should be.

I think that if you seperate kids then they will want to have sex even more. Teens like to go against the rules.
To prevent and lower teen sex:
educate teens about the results of sex (disease, HIV, AIDS, babies)
have people that had sex as teens and ended up in a bad place to tell their stories
and if all else fails educate them about safe sex. If they're gonna have sex might as well take the proper procautions

Parents have got to start taking an interest in actively raising their children. Parents (in general) today seem to think the schools will raise the children, or that kids can raise themselves. Parents need to start talking to their kids about sex at a much earlier age than when I was a kid. Parents need to refuse to buy clothing for the girls that makes them look like a whore...eye candy for pedophiles. Parents need to monitor the children's whereabouts more closely and call the friends house to make sure the child is actually there. Parents need to discuss, in detail, what happens when a girl gets pregnant and they need to let their sons know they will be held accountable for providing for a child if they get a girl pregnant. Parents need to expose their teens to life with an infant by asking friends or family members who have small children to visit....or to have them babysit a young child so they can see just what it's like.

get the parents involved . if more parents took thr time to talk to their kids about sex and the dangers of it(stds pregnancy) the rates would be lower. also get the parents some education most not all kids are following a family cycle. the grandmother had her mom at 15 mom had her at 14 daughter has sex at 12. education is key but getting parents involved is even better
sex education starts at age 3
not 13

Why do young teens have sex? While a recent study suggested sexy media images might be to blame, a new study shows kids might also be motivated by relationship goals like intimacy and social status.
Teens want their relationships to bring them intimacy, social status, and sexual pleasure -- and they have a strong expectation these goals will be fulfilled if they have sex, according to a report in the June 2006 issue of Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health.
The report says these perceived benefits should be considered along with the risks (sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancypregnancy) when developing programs aimed at preventing early teen sex.
Mary Ott, MD, from Indiana University, along with colleagues from the University of California, San Francisco, sought to find out why young teens want -- or would want -- to have sex (defined in this study as male-female intercourse). They surveyed 637 ninth-graders in two socioeconomically and ethnically diverse Northern California schools.
Gender Differences
About 57% of the kids were girls, 43% boys, and most were 14 years old.
The researchers found the boys and girls valued relationship goals differently:
Girls considered intimacy significantly more important than boys did.
Boys reported higher expectations that sex would lead to pleasure and social status.
Of the teens who answered a question about sexual experience, 13% said they had had sex. The experienced teens considered intimacy and sexual pleasure significantly more important as a relationship goal than the inexperienced teens did.
As for social status, sexually experienced girls saw less value in that than inexperienced girls did. There was no difference of opinion about social status between experienced and inexperienced boys.
The researchers say this supports the double standard that sex improves the social status of boys but jeopardizes it for girls.
Generally, teens expected sex to help them reach goals of intimacy, pleasure, and social status. However, girls and sexually inexperienced teens had lower expectations.
Prevention Tactics
The researchers say programs to dissuade early teen sex usually focus on the negative -- the risks of STDs and pregnancy.
Teens might heed the message better, they say, if the positive expectations -- "developing a sense of intimacy, achieving social skills and goals, and experiencing sexual pleasure" -- are recognized and alternative ways to achieve those goals suggested.

okay i am a teen and i do have sex, there are no ways to stop it but maybe to help prevent it more videos need to be shown, i know how i fely when i watched a movie of young girls dying because they had aids or just embarrased of stds. and true you can quit giving condoms out at school but teens are not going to stop having sex, i believe even though im 16 that we should never be left alone or allowed to date till we are 18, then we can also move out and take care of ourselves and realize how much we appreciate people like you caring for us while we care for a new born. THANK YOU

It will be done by restoring independence, legal, personal, and adult responsibility back into the lives of adolescents. The law and our society robbed it from the hands of teenagers many years ago in the form of highly restrictive marriage laws, and also through disparaging desires among the youthful to pursue, during their teenage years, committed relationships, marriage, sex, having children, and employment worthy of supporting a family. It must also be noted that adults expect so little anymore from adolescents, and in turn, that's all adults get from adolescents. We need to be asking our adolescents to take on more responsibility for their lives, and inform them of the consequences for making bad choices. Until we are ready to do that, there really isn't much use in complaining.

3 words that should scare any teen. Pregnancy, std's and welfare. Parents also need to get involved in their lives. Start having sex ed. at a young age. Just a few minutes of fun can change your life forever. It would be nice to have less single parents and children living in poverty.
