The answer to that question is simple: MySpace and Facebook are fun and school is boring. Don't take that to mean that school isn't important, but it has yet to evolve to meet the needs of today's students. Many schools have yet to adopt any new methods of teaching to help engross students into the subjects they are being taught. We live in a time where any tidbit of information can be found within seconds using a search engine, but we're still required to sit through an hour long class that consists of only a teacher’s lecture and a PowerPoint presentation if we’re lucky. The problem is twofold: the students aren’t motivated and the schools aren’t doing enough to motivate them.

they waste time for the same reasons as you obviously did back when you were young. check your spelling and grammar before you comment on "education" makes you look like a sap otherwise.
