This Spider is pretty big compared to any other spider that I have seen. It's frt legs has orange stripes through the knee area and the rear have yellow stripes through out them....a somewhat large body. It did have a web close to a wasps nest and was catching them on a regular basis.
Then it disappeared til recently I seen it in my house. I did happen to catch 3 pictures of it while it was on his web. Could someone please tell me if I should be worried about it being I have a 3 yr old son. I can forward pic's if that would help. I have look through-out the web trying to indentify it but I have come up empty on anything that looks like it. I live in southeast michigan close to the woods.
Thank you for any help I can get.
Jim

I think you mean an "argiope" garden spider. If it is, it will be much happier outdoors. It's not harmful to humans but I'd still not feel comforable with in my house.

Call a nature study centre and zoo, talk to a Zoologist, do not kill it. Talk to entomologist Professor at new by learning Institution.

All spiders get big, like that they are territorial and keep the small one away, small ones just do not challenge a large spider, but if they do engage each other, they are sure to fight to death, some times both die.

Two well know are Hob in Idaho and it relative Recluse in MO. Both are poisonous, but it depends on many things, amount of poison carried and injected, and the tolerance of individuals, check the baby for bit marks on regular basis, if you see the one inside the house then care fully pick it up and release it outside. It may be a protected , they do kill many other bad insects, so they are humans' friends.

Do a search on Internet for spiders in Michigan, see what it matches.

I would also vote on it being a Agiopidae--orb weaver. Look up the name on one of the spider sites. I also caution you it is not harmful to your 3 year old but it produces an egg sac full of hundreds of young in the fall and you want it out of the house and in the woods before then

Michigan State has an entomology department. The URL is below. You can call them and find someone who will help you.

I wouldn't be too worried about the safety of your family. Most spiders want to be left alone.
