I went without sugar and bread for 40 days and lost 32 pounds. It wasn't that bad, it just took some self-control. Actually, the food I was eating was great. For breakfast, I had a glass of milk, I put a piece of cheese on a sausage patty and I had a veggie (slice of tomato, carrot sticks, celery, whatever..).
Whenever I ate, I could fit it all in both palms of my hands. I had a snack around 10 (carrot sticks, celery, whatever..) and that could fit into one palm of my hand. Lunch was a chicken breast with cheese, OR a salad with meat. You can do a lot to change up this menu, I'm just telling you my diet.
Snack around 3 pm could be a cup of soup (sugar free).
Dinner was again the two palm steak, chicken, rice, veggies, whatever..
Snack around 8 pm.

You can find a ton of different recipes for this diet in the South Beach series, the Zone diet, or any books with Carb reducing diets. Try http://www.southbeachdiet.com/sbd/publicsite/funnel/v2/index.aspx?np=1&cid=south%20beach%20diet%20recipes|884361663 under "what will you eat?"

I was doing some moderate exercise at the gym, but nothing too strenuous. Walking helped a lot. It helped to reduce the stress levels. My weight gain was really about stress and how my stress made me grab whatever bad things I could get to eat because I was on the go and not thinking about diet.

I hope this helps.

I hope you've got some time. Don't try to lose the weight too fast.

Change your diet. Actually any type of food is ok, but be real light on desserts and junk food. Be heavy on the veggies. Twinkies, Doritos, ice cream should become memories. Watch butter on veggies and bread. Don't put sugar on fruit and stay away from sweetened breakfast cereals.

Increase your exercise. Exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. According to my bio prof, walking a mile burns the same number of calories as running a mile. Make it easy on yourself. Also, 3 ten minute walks is in some cases better than one 30 min walk.
