How do you install thermostat on a 2001 1.8t jetta? Where is the thermostat?

Follow upper hose back to engine should be there in a thoat like area/ attached to engine block! bottom hose takes away heated water the top hose put water in to engine probably some nuts there have take them off Metric sizes opens up the pipe then remove old one take to shop where you buy th stuff and get new one maybe next higher temp/ too 180 upto 190 so to speak??
