Its an old boiler with hot & cold water tanks

Listen for a rumbling sound before it cuts out, could be the pump (not working so not moving the heat from the boiler), or, as suggested, thermostat is iffy, pump more likely though.

Get a screwdriver and use it as a stethoscope against the pump and check if it is working when the boiler is on. It is either your pump or the boiler stat. (Not room stat)

Check themostat set right temp? to hot may cost you alot/try setting at comfortable temp like 82 degrees?

my boiler was just the same....I got somebody out and it is now sorted...it wanted what they call a thermo couple...
