For whatever it's worth, I absolutely agree! Running your own business is much more work than working for someone else, and you sure don't get paid for every hour you're on the job! Not at first.
It is also much more rewarding. But anyone can do it. Basically all you need is a vision and a willingness to work toward your goals, and stick to it. You'll get there. The old adage "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." is an excellent one for anyone starting out on their own.
It is mundane in the way that it is a lot of work that no one sees. (ie. research on your service or product, finding the right products, finding the right insurance, bookkeeping, ordering, shipping, cleaning. Boring stuff. You get the idea.) Like any talent on stage, it requires hours of work behind scenes to come to successful fruition. Being an entrepreneur is like being a star, of sorts. Many people will come to know you, and associate you with your business. As your business grows, more people will know you than you can possibly know, especially if you come to advertising, and your reputation will proceed you. So it's fun, it's exciting, and it's a lot of work!
In case you haven't heard before, Colonel Sanders made many attempts at business before he struck it rich with Kentucky Fried Chicken, in his 60's. Me being in my 50's maybe that interests me more than it would you. :-)
