air working out of the pipes, , may be too much air in the expansion tank, bleed it.

The problem is air in the lines. Shut off the input (cold) valve at the tank. Open all the faucets in the entire house, letting them drain completely. Next, start closing the faucets nearest to the hot water tank, one at a time, working your way furtherest(spelled right?) away until all done. This should get rid of all the air in the lines. If not, rinse, repeat.

first make sure you have the valve all the way open. The check that all of your pipes leading to and from heater are strapped down tight. If both of those are OK, you may need a expansion tank installed

you may need to have a surge valve installed its sometimes referred to as hammer valve it takes the rattle out
