Don't get me wrong, I love the holidays, but I would love to snap my fingers and have my house look like a spread from Better Homes and Gardens. I'm so obsessive about getting everything just so that it takes me forever to finish. I get burned out before I even finish. And my family, they could really care less..

No. I like to decorate with the family. We put on Christmas music and just deck out. Why worry so much about it. Remember the spirit of the holidays. It shouldn't be stressful.
My husband's ex had to have her tree decorated like you see in a mall department store so she wouldn't allow her children to put their homemade decorations on the tree. ????
In no way am I going to be like her. That's not me anyway.
My advice to you is to Relax and Involve the family. Have fun. This isn't one of those times where things need to be as perfect as possible. If people look down at you or say anything negative then either ignore them or just tell them that you weren't looking for their opinions. You didn't decorate the house for just them. There is a time and a place for "perfection."
It's not that we don't want the house to look nice but we don't obsess over it either. We do our best and let it be. We make adjustments if we need to but the important thing is to not let it get out of control. It's not worth driving yourself crazy. Think about the affect on your family.

If I could afford to pay someone to do outdoor lights, that would be ok, so long as they put them up the way I want them...but for inside, No.....that's my thing! Maybe everyone acts like they don't care, but they really do and believe it or not, it will be remembered long after you are gone, and after they all leave home....when I was small, my mother would take all the regular knick knacks down, clean house, and wsh them, and then bring out the Christmas Boxes...this was done before Daddy got the tree...the next week, the week before Christmas, he brought in the tree, and we decorated the tree..my dad always loved the tree and wrappping packages...you could always tell the ones he wrapped because he used lots of curling ribbon.....I do some pretty nice giftwrapping myself...but I still love the Curling ribbon and use tons of it myself...I love the new metalic stuff! Anyway, I am 56, and my parents are now in their 80's..not able to do what they once did, but Daddy still puts up the tree! I have lots of good memories...i don't remember the presents much, but I have lots of other memories of Christmas! a couuple of years ago, I didn't do stockings...and my son, now age 24 was really upset that he didn't get his stocking...I didn't think it would matter.....but I heard about it. So continue to decorate, make it as nice as you want to, be fussy about it....it's your thing, and theirs too...even if you don't think they care...they really do.

No!, and I could afford this.

Why would anyone "deck out your house" when everyone is so concerned about ecology, energy use, and waste? Would it not be more in the tradition of the hibernal equinox and potlatch to just give a large donation to the USO for the troops overseas or actually invite a Marine, Solider, Sailor or Airman over to your home for a seasonal meal.

Are not individual people more important the a pretty home?

Well, if you use LED lights, and a computer to control them, you can put 100,000 lights and your energy costs would not exceed $1 a day.

How do I know? I put out 25,000 Incandescents last year and my electrical costs were under $1 a day.

So, why do it? People need good Christmas memories and one of the best memories is driving around looking at the home on Christmas Street.

Cheap, free, ecological friendlier than Al Gore (who wastes more energy in a month than you or I can conserve in a year).

Well peasants were Serfs, the property of Medieval Lords. Nothing much Happened to them other than a miserable life, hard work, disease and constant abuse from the nobility. Peasants had no private property, no voice, pretty much nothing. But what occurred? Well, the world changed, everyone slowly but surely became "equal". Nobility no longer held serfs as property, middle class people became the biggest social class and the Nobility hated every second of this revolution.

Most defiantly I would pay someone. If you really enjoy decorating yourself but just find it to to much to handle then maybe just hire someone to hang the lights etc. and you do what you enjoy most. Another suggestion is to do it with friends. Get a couple of your friends together and take turns decorating your houses together.

Yes. But only if I was rich and could afford it. I love having my house decorated for holidays but it just about never gets done!

No for me decorating is what gets you in the spirit. Try starting early and doing a bit a week, then you wont get burned out!!
