We must know more. Is it a screw that secures wires to the alternator charging pole? Is it a bolt and or nut on the alternator bracket.

If its a bolt head as another person the Sears kit works well. It's a series of socket shaped tools with a left hand deep sharp continuous tapered spirals inside.

If it's a stripped nut on the charging pole on the alternator this set will get it also.

You can always try an 8" Ridgid pipe wrench. The teeth are hardened and should "bite" any stripped nut or bolt.

If you truely have a stripped screw is it Phillips, slotted,Torx or Posidrive. You may need to drill the center and use a screw extractor. If you need to know how it works Google: screw extractors.

First off what screw is it? Are the threads stripped or the head?
If its into the altinator, and you are replacing the altinator just grind the head off. Let the rebuilder deal with it when the auto parts store sends it in for a core.
If its the threads and its into the altinator just yank it out with some vise grips and again let the rebuilder worry about it.
If it is into the engine block / intake / head or other part, again grind the head off and then use vise grips to turn it out. then replace the bolt with a new one.
If it threads into the motor etc. you will have to drill out the hole and Heli Coil it. You can buy Heli Coil kits at the auto parts store.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the head of the screw being stripped out. Most auto parts stores sell screw extractors in the tool section for a few dollars. Or, if you have a dremel or similar rotary tool, you could cut a slot in the head of the screw and remove it with a flat screwdriver.

if the head is striped sears/craftsmen make a bolt out screw out kit for that and they work really well. if the thread is striped there are a couple of ways to get it out. one is if you have or can get an easy out (it a special kind of bit) and drill a small hole into the head then use the easy out to get it out. the other option is to cut the head off a drill the hole and bolt out then tap it. the second is what most shops will do.

At some point you may have to drill it out but that is going to damage the altenator and the bracket.
