due to modern technology (television, computer analysis, internet ect) candidates no longer rely on political parties as they did in the past. Is it valid to say that we are witnessing the beginning of the end of political parties as a mainstay in american politics?

I hope so, but there is probably a long way to go before a third party candidate is going to have an actual shot at winning.

Keep in mind the whole media/debate structure is geared toward GOP/Dem. A third party candidate would have to buy attention because it would certainly not be handed to them by the media.

Even now, the media basically anoints front runners based on name recognition. I don't know a conservative eager to vote any of the GOP 'front runners' but there are two or three pretty conservative candidates who never get media attention.

I'm sure the same is almost true for the Dems. I keep hearing criticisms of Hillary and Obama, but those are the only two candidates that get attention from the media.

Not to repeat myself, but the only party that counts now is--The Money Party---

Both major political parties are controlled by the special interests and as has been said there is "not a dime's worth of difference between them".---because they are bought and paid for before being elected. Even some present newsman and gurus on the political scene admit this.

The Unions assemble dues from all the staff, and deliver contributions to easily the Democrat party. it is carried out by ability of the administration, not the staff. One can only Hope !
What I expect to happen, is for the moderates in both parties to take back control of each party's platforms. Failing this, I think the stage is set for a "Common Sense", or "Patriotic" 3rd party to emerge. A lot depends on this next election cycle!

I hope other parties become relevant. I hope peole stop feeling like they are throwing there vote away voting independent. In my mind Id be throwing my vote away if I voted for any of the Front Runners. The only person in either "major" party I would vote for is Ron Paul.
