Not really. There are several strategies:
Start a debt plan if you overspent. Budget tighter, double up your payments, and get those bills paid off. If you have a Christmas club at your job (where money gets deducted from your check to collect for Christmas shopping) this will be the time to get the most out of it.
You can also take advantage of a lot of sales on seasonal items like Christmas decorations, cards, giftwrap. Take some notes this year about how your stuff is holding up, and then replace it at huge savings the week after Christmas.
A good way to take care of shopping throughout the year is to get yourself a smallish calender just for keeping track of special dates in the family. When you shop for that person's birthday gift or whatever, shop for their Christmas present, tuck it away wrapped with a post it note to remind YOU of the contents. Think if you do this through the year...and have Christmas club account...you wouldn't even need the money for shopping for people, and you could do something really charitable, or really extravagent for yourself.

I don't think it is ever to early to start planning for next Christmas. I start buying for next Christmas even before the present Christmas gets here

I guess that would depend on how elaborate a Christmas you want, or what plans you're making.
When I was young, my family would change the place we go to celebrate Christmas from my house, to my uncle's house, to my grandparent's house. The location would usually be determined that Christmas evening after dinner. So, I guess we started planning on Christmas day!
