The PS3 plays full 1080p hi-definition wheras the Xbox just upscales the image. The internet gaming is free for the PS3 so over 5 years that's £200/$270 saved compared to Xbox live. If you like online play there's Warhawk and Unreal Tournament 3 is coming out. Also the Playstation Network has Little Big Planet and Home coming to it.
Blu-ray discs mean that more can be stored on PS3 games allowing them to be bigger. An Xbox DVD holds about 8GB but a single layer Blu-ray disc holds 25GB and a dual layer holds 50GB yet a 360 game costs the same as a PS3 game. The PS3 is a very cheap Blu-ray player while you have to buy a £120/$200 add-on to play HD-DVD movies.
The PS3 has been out a year less than the 360 and it's graphics are already equalling or bettering those on the 360. As the developers become better at developing games for the PS3 the gap will only widen. As far as games go most of the better games for the Xbox are either multi-platform or going to come out for the PC at some point like Gears of War and Halo 1 & 2 already have. The PS3 has Uncharted, Killzone 2, Haze, MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, Ratchet and Clank, and God of War 3 as well as the multi-platform titles like Call of Duty 4. Finally the PS3 has much better hardware than the Xbox which has massive 30% failure rate.

The Xbox's strengths are that it's cheaper (but I don't think it is in the long run) and Xbox live is probably better (but you have to pay).

If you are mainly a casual gamer or non-gamer and like having non-gamer friends round the Wii is the right choice for you. The Wii has some good games like Zelda Twilight Princess but a lot of others are just mini-game compilations.

The Wii is going to look very outdated soon as it doesn't even display HD and it doesn't seem to have many serious games. The original Xbox only had a lifespan of 4 years and with the 360's problems it may only last another 2-3. The PS2 had a lifespan of 6 years and the PS3 is planned to last 7-10 years. It is the most value for money as all models have a hard drive, a HDMI port, and Wi-fi built in.

I think you're personal preference for the games on each system should be what you base your decision on but I'd go for a PS3.

Best in what regards?

Graphics: Xbox 360 & PS3 are tied for realism, though I love the cell-shading that you see on the Wii.

Price: The Wii is the cheapest, followed by the XBox 360 & PS3 (depending on what packages you buy).

Games: depends on what type of games that you like. RPG, I'd say PS3. Online multiplayer, I"d say Xbox360. Family-oriented multiplayer, Wii.

Availablility: Xbox360 & PS3 are available in pretty much any store. The Wii is much harder to find in store and therefore more expensive on Ebay, Amazon, etc.

What I love about the Wii is playing classic games (NES & SNES era) w/o the glitches often seen on the ROMS for the 360.

Depends on the type of gamer. For a more casual gamer, it's the Wii. Very family friendly and lots of great games for playing with friends.
For the more hardcore gamers, it's the Xbox360. All of the top games these days are on the 360.
The PS3 remains unproven and severely lacks in its library of titles.

i like the wii, but hands down XBOX 360 wins. better graphics than all hte other next generation systems, better price than the PS3! and the wii has the owrst graphics, but in my view, best gameplay. but XBOX has the Halo series. but even if you overlook halo, XBOX wins dude. PS3 is a good one two, especially with the ability to watch Blue Ray disks, but almost every game is either a dissapointment, or is just fun. kinda 50/50 if ya know what i mean. so, get and Xbox if u want graphics and fun, a Wii if u want inovative gameplay, or a PS3 if u wanna spend like $450

ps3 is the best because of the clearity of the game but actually xbox360 and the ps3 have the same graphics only that the clearity of the game is different and by the way nintendo wii is useless because of the graphics and that your hands will hurt if u play too much

PS3, Online games are free.
Have you read what that thing can do vs. the 360? Wii isn't even in the race.
