I had some infected files that my current program Webroot Spy Sweeper did not locate! I was hijacked and couldn't do any surfing or check my email. When I ran Ewido it found the infections and my computer is running fine! Whats up with SpySweeper and should I now make Ewido my new spyware program or just leave the Webroot? SpySweeper came with my computer when I purchased it.

sadly there's no magical tool that could deal with all possible types of malware. they are all different because they are made by different companies, they are made in different ways and so on.
also, you need to know that new malwares appear everyday and some companies update their tools everyday as well, but some updates them only twice a week or even more rare. maybe spysweeper was't updated yet, while ewido was.
the third reason why anti spyware programs are so different: some of them are dedicated to deal with certain type of malware and not with all the infections. in this case you can't expect dedicated tool to remove infections that it shouldn't detect. for example anti virus deletes viruses and not adware or spyware.

Currently the most effective way to remove spyware and adware infections is to use one of the many spyware protective software programs.
A good anti spyware/adware program will do 3 things that will clean your computer and then keep it clean. It will scan your computer to discover where the problem is, then it will run through and completely remove spyware from your system and then it will run on your computer in the background, defending you against future spyware attacks.

No two anti-spyware programs agree on what constitutes spyware and whether or not certain types of adware should be removed.
You're going to see different results with different anti-spyware applications.
Choose one and make it your main line of defense,
and use another one or two as secondary programs and run them two or three times weekly.
Before scanning, always make sure you update the "definitions" and also check for program updates too.

I personally use Lavasoft's Adaware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy. Each finds what the other misses. Use all of them if you want. I also use AVG Antivirus (because they are all free for private use).
