I don't think it's legal in California. Yes, I would sneak it in my purse. The largest think I snuck in probable was a lg Slurpee and some red liquorice. A healthy snack I would take is 100 cal granola bars there small and easy to just put in your pocket. or open a bag of popcorn flavored rice cakes and put into your own plastic bag and into your pocket they go. I don't think its wrong at all. It's crazy the prices for movies. Here is a break down of a day at the theater in California
Movie: $10.50- one movie
Pop Corn: small $4.00, med $6.50, lg $ 9.00
Drink: Sm $ 2.75, med $ 3.50, lg $ 5.00
Candy bar: starting $ 3.50 - $5.50
Hot Dog $5.50
Coffee: $4.00
I hope this is helpful.

I always stop at the store beside the theater and buy a bag of Reese's Pieces for the movie. If the concession stand there had them, I would do the right thing, but that's not an option. It's not as bad as my movie buddy, who always walks in with a Beef and Cheddar from Arby's stuffed into one pocket and a bottle of soda in the other.
The dietitian ... first off, she's obnoxious. Secondly, she's incompetent -- or else she has never seen a theater concession stand! There is nothing of any nutritional value there.
Maybe you could take raisins, or peanut-butter crackers, or something long-lasting like Jolly Ranchers.

1. Plan your meals and eat before you enter the theatre. Plan your movie times in between meals. If you have boundary issues around eating ("I mess up on eating healthy") consider Overeaters Anonymous.
2. If you absolutely must bring a meal into the theatre, and you're confronted by the manager, tell him/her that you have health issues if someone balks at your behavior. You'll have an easier time if the meal is homemade, healthy, and packed in containers. Few would argue with a diabetic or hypoglycemic trying to regulate her body chemistry. Stay away from runny, crumbly, staining food that could leave a mess; take everything out that you brought in, including the trash. Don't bring off-putting, highly fragrant or noisy food into the theatre: be considerate of others who might have mild allergies. Finish eating before the feature presentation starts so that all can enjoy the movie. Set an example so good that it changes a harried theatre worker's opinion to the good. They want you to have a good experience in their theatre, so long as everyone else in the audience can have one, too.

I think it's completely stupid that theaters try to trap you into only eating their concessions. They are extremely overpriced, and you are already being over charged for the movie so why would you want to pay $5 for a small drink?
I have no problem bringing in my own snacks. Being a girl makes it convenient, since we can just slip something inside a purse. If you get caught, the worse that can happen is they ask you not to bring it in. But it's not likely that they will search your purse for any snacks brought from home.

Why they try to rip everyone off at the movies by those cossession stand prizes. I have someone who pays the buck for me at the movies when I go. I think it would be alright for you to make you a snack of carrots and cellery =place them in your purse and bring them on in. I hope that all is well with you and God Bless you.
