I don't believe the Democrats will make that mistake. And they shouldn't tamper with the 2nd or any other amendment. That was a big part of them losing previous elections. I don't believe in Changing any of the Constitution or the original amendments. The document stands in tact as it was written or it stands for nothing. It is the foundation of this country and the basis of our government. men and women have died and shed their blood for each and every letter of that document. I swore an oath to "Support and defend the constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic". This administration has circumvented the 4th and 14th amendments with the Patriot act-Ruled,e ven by a conservative supreme court as unconstitutional- and Called the constitution a "goddamn piece of paper". Alberto Gonzalez even called it an "outdated document" So you do you think is trying to do more damage to our Constitution.

Why refer to Democrats? The Supreme Court, which granted certiorari to its first Second Amendment case since 1939, is heavily dominated by Republican-appointed and Republican-pleasing justices.

It's never safe to make assumptions too early about what the Court intends. The best hints will come as the Court hears argument and individual justices ask questions. Even then, the chances of a surprise ruling are pretty high, given that there's very little track record among them on Second Amendment issues.

The trouble with the Second Amendment is that there's that little bit of explanation about a "well-regulated militia" built into it, and that leaves a huge amount of room for argument over whether that is just window dressing or really limits the scope of the right to keep and bear arms. Not having had a Supreme Court weigh in since before the current members even started studying law leaves a wide range of possible results.

I am opposed to anyone messing with the Bill of Rights for any reason. That includes Democrats (or anyone else) trying to delete the Second Amendment, or Republicans (or anyone else) trying to chop up the First.

Party loyalty isn't very high on my list. A party (currently the Democrats) keeps my support only when they don't screw up. I vote, volunteer, and campaign for people with character, not a party affiliation. Respect for fundamental liberties is part of the character I look for.

That being said, the Second Amendment raises more questions than most about how we can live with it. Do I want violent political demonstrators (most of whom, by the way, seem to be left-wingers and probably think they're on my side) able to equip themselves with hand grenades and machine guns?

I'm pretty sure I want some kind of limits there, but I don't want the police taking away my nephew's hunting equipment, either. (He bagged a big and delicious wild turkey for last Thanksgiving.)

I don't think this is an issue for partisan yammering; it's an issue for sensible consideration. If that cuts both Democrats and Republicans out of their favorite role, let 'em live with it.

Well, with Republicans and Democrats both going after free speech (McCain-Fiengold), and Democrats in particular taking aim at talk radio, I would say the 1st Amendment.

The McCain-Fiengold Bill is one of the main reasons John McCain will never get my vote. It restricted exactly what the 1st Amendment was supposed to guarantee. Political free speech.

They only want to take the second amendment away from vocal republican or conservatives who "out them" for their ignorance or blatant mutiny of anyone actually being productive in government or society.

With the current globalization/bow to the UN trend,
Un and the world court will trump 2a.
