I am going on my first trip abroad. I need to know which currency to carry with me. I am planning to carry rupees and then to get them converted to Bhat on arrival in Thailand. Second I need to show proof of adequate funds for obtaining Visa on Arrival. Will cash be sufficient proof. What other proofs are applicable?

As you are going to Thailand it is better to keep thailand currency too, keep some Indian currency also but it is better to convert the rupees in India itself, you can get them converted in Thomas cook or banks,

you can show proof of (lot of) adequate funds but to be on the safer side it is better to show some property like land or house.

I am not sure how much cash you will be allowed to take out of India, You need to get in touch with RBI or Customs to find out but it's worth to have USD as well in foreign currency apart from Bhat. You might get good market rate if Indian rupees to Thai Bhat is low.
