I am 18 and my boyfriend is 25 and we need to find a place to live or at least help paying the rent or security deposit. If we don't find some place soon that will help we're going to have to go to a homeless shelter. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN! I just need to find come kind of organization because Rock County Human Services was no help at all. You either have to have kids or wait for like 36 months to get help. And no I don't want someone to feel bad....... I'm just asking for some help.

We have Community Action. Do You? It is an organization that helps low income people if they need help with utilities or a move in security deposit. Your need fits the description-but it is all about your income and how serious your situation is. If you do not have kids, you must have a job. Also, if the both of you plan on moving, you both need stable jobs that can support the rent. They only help you twice though, and they are not advertised. You have to call your local welfare office for info if they have it-otherwise you may have to bunk with someone until the both of you get the money together.

Good Luck!

Are you both working? If you are both working, you should be able to afford the basic essentials, such as a one-bedroom or efficiency apartment. Many landlords, if you talk to them, will also take payments on the deposit (making an extra $100 or $200 payment along with the rent payment until deposit is covered) if you come across as being a sincere individual who will pay your rent on time and take care of your rental. Also, it's not the best situation, but many small, local motels offer weekly and monthly rates (no utilities to worry about) ... this is a temporary fix.

I presume you applied for Sec. 8 Housing Assistance and discovered that there is a waiting list for such assistance, and that preference is given to those with children. If you have explored your options with the Department of Human Services and received no positive help, I'm afraid that your next step may be The Salvation Army or similar charity. However, these folks will only provide for short term assistance, until you get on your feet.

Do either or both of you have employment? If not, I'd suggest starting a job search immediately so that you can provide funding for your own housing.
