....that Earth is the only inhabited planet in the Universe?

The question that always comes up from those of the ilk that believes such nonsense is usually,
"Well if there is inteligent life why don't they contact us?"
can be simply answered in the assumption that these life forms that have the capability to contact us are of advanced intelligence and simply "know better" than to make contact with such a primitive, warring species.

Perhaps the analogy can be made in comparision to any one of us going into the jungle and trying to communicate with wild boar.

What might be the resulting consequences of that?

How can a supposed "intelligent mind" come to the conclusion that throughout the entire expanse of this Universe, we are the "best" that could come from either some Intelligent Design or a random fluke?

Is there any logic in the idea that the Universe exists solely to perplex us?

Take your analogy further - the wild boar will try to kill us and we would feel threatened too by any alien that landed. It's best that people don't believe, or else they would be looking for someone or something to destroy on earth because they didn't understand it.

It is not the universe that is perplexing mankind. It is my believe that there are those among us who are scared to death that a higher power like God could exist because if people accept this concept then that means we will be held response for our actions.

I don't expect people to accept what I'm about to say but I just can't accept the idea this world just happened for no reason. This world is designed- it is designed to accommodate and provide everything- everything mankind needs not only to exist but to grow. Look at all the other planets and we can't exist on any other planet we can find except this one planet. To travel to any planet other then Earth means we have to take Earth's environment with us.

Well for one, we have no proof or disproof of the existence of life on other planets and two the idea of whole different words filled with completely different creatures that are in no way related to use seems so far off that it is hard for most people to imagine (that's why when people draw aliens they're all more or less humanoid).
It isn't arrogance, it's more an inability to cope with the complex concept.

Well you can be ignorant or arrogant enough to believe you're right , so why not them
millions believe in God by one name or another, millions don't
chances are there is intelligent life out there, but we can't find them so why should they be able to find us, we have only been broadcasting radio for about 100 years, that's not long enough for anyone else to receive it, let alone receive a reply
