Useless baby things in our house:
- Huge, fancy playpen with a bassinet and changing table attached (a simple cheap one that is small for traveling would be way better)
- Diaper genie II (we ended up cloth diapering)
- Stroller toys (don't bother buying specific toys that go on the stroller, just buy some links and attach toys from the house to the stroller, the baby likes this much more!)
- Baby laundry soap (just buy a regular detergent that is free of dyes, scents and enzymes and wash everything from your house with that ie. Tide Free)
- Sleepers that zip up or have snaps down only one leg (it is nearly impossible to get a squirmy baby leg into the one leg, always buy sleepers that snap open on BOTH legs, you will have much more pleasant diaper changes!)
- Lots of pants in size 6-12 months (this is the time when babies start getting mobile. Our daughter much prefers just wearing a shirt, diaper and baby leg warmers instead of pants when she is crawling around)

All of those extra baby clothes, especially the newborn '0000' size ones! Should have bought way less so i could actually get some wear out of some of them. And i should've bought more of the larger sizes.
One of those silly night light things that attach to the cot with the picture that goes on the ceiling and the music. Heaps more of a distraction than a useful device to get baby settled/sleeping. Waste of money.

I agree that our bottle warmer was useless, especially as I ended up breastfeeding for two years! Also, I wish we hadn't wasted our money on a Moses basket as our son wouldn't sleep in it because he woke up every time he moved and touched the sides. We were bought loads of newborn clothes but our little one was too long for them when he was born, so they were packed away unused. Also, things like talc and shampoo were pretty useless and we have never used talc and we didn't start using shampoo on my son's hair until he was over a year old, as it just didn't need it.

Bottle sterlizer. We got one and used it at first but now we hardly ever use it. It just took up too much space on the counter and now it's in the cabinet, never getting used. I hand wash everything every night so I don't really need it since the water is so hot. Dishwasher works great too (so I've been told) but I never have a full load and usually need to use one of the bottles immediately.

Bottle warmers. They're pretty useless. You can't leave the milk in them for more than a couple of hours, so it doesn't help in the middle of the night. And why would you sit a bottle in one for thirty minutes anyway, if not to use in the middle of the night? I never got the point, but I recieved two of them my last pregnancy. Ugh.

Diaper Genie. Too much effort went into it, then it just stunk all the time. We just use small plastic bags to tie the dirty diapers in~ free and a lot easier!
Changing table. It's good at first, but after you've healed, it's so much easier to just throw the kid on the floor and change his butt there.
Shoes 0-6 months. They don't wear shoes this young, and you never put them on anyway, unless it's for a picture.
Congrats & good luck!

A night light thing that you wind up and it plays music and the pictures move on the ceiling, used it once. A sleeping bag carry thing that you can put your baby in when you are out instead of a port-a-cot, we just put her in her pram in the end or people would hold her.

Most people either hate or never use the Diaper Genie.
