i am trying to connect my xbox360 to live and it is sayin ip address failed

DHCP itself is NOT configured on the card. You simply tell the card to configure automatically. On the router or modem you can configure dhcp on/off, change it's allocated address pool and even it's subnet. If this is a USB connected modem, however, your dhcp comes from the ISP and you can not alter it. If you explain exactly what you are trying to do we might be able to help.

My setup does dhcp at the router, not at the modem. thus I point my web browser (e.g. internet explorer or firefox) to the routers ip addres, type in the user id password and usually the dhcp option is on the first page (I have linksys). You can enable dhcp, disable it, and also change the range of ip addresses that it will server (lease)

DHCP is configured on your NIC, not on the modem. The default configuration is DHCP so unless you have set a static IP address on the NIC there's no need to change anything.
