Unusual crying ... teething?

My little one (4 months today) has been very fussy as of late ... Yesterday, she burst out crying in the grocery store, which is very unusual; but, she calmed when I picked her up. She didn't have a temp and the rest of the day was "ok". She woke me up screaming tonight, which she never does ... Again, no temp; I nursed her back to sleep. Just wondering if this is common with teething. She's been drooling for weeks and the world is a giant chew toy for her. I know teething causes fussiness, but this sounds more like pain crying. I'm calling the doc first thing in the morning, but am just curious if this behavior sounds like possible teething?? Anyone have any similar experiences?

It very well could be. 4 months is usually the start of teething but doesn't necessarily mean some are going to pop out yet. My daughter was drooling and chewing on everything but then didn't actually get a tooth till 9months. my son was 8mths.

I would try and give her some baby paracetamol if she wakes up with the pain crying again to help her settle and sleep better. If she does settle you know it was pain, if she doesn't its something else.

Other signs of teething can be runny poo, flushed cheeks or tugging at their ears. Also check her gums to see if they are red, inflamed or raised or if there a any noticeably bigger white bumps coming through. Try and get her to open her mouth but tickling or something and check her mouth this way.

my son started teethin at four months (now six months and has two teeth pokin out) and was so crabby i couldn't believe it. he want from bouncin happy baby boy to a devil child that made me want to pull my hair out.

teething is pain. you gotta remember that those teeth have to rip through the skin in baby's gum in order to pop out. i'd try some sort of oral pain reliever for her and see if that helps.

if you don't want to use somethin like baby orajel (there's a limit on how much you can use in 24 hours) try hyland's teething tablets. they are homeopathic and you can pretty much use them as much as you want and not have to worry about an overdose.

but yes definitely call you doctor about the screamin. it's exactly what i would do. it's better to err on the side of caution then to not do anythin about it just cause she's teethin.

remember that some of the things that go on during a teething could be caused by somethin other then teethin (like the mild fever they get and the runny poop).

i call my sons doctor EVERY time somethin like that happens. yes, some people would say i'm freakin out for no reason but i would rather catch somethin serious early on then let it progress.

If your little one is teething, maybe her ears and jaw are hurting too, My boy has 8 teeth and at the moment he is getting his i teeth and they are knocking him for 6, he wont sleep at night, cries to get into bed with me, wakes up horrendously early and is tired and cranky all day long, he is having trouble eating so I took him to a Doctor because it was just taking a bit longer to get better and she said that teething can cause referred pain through the jaw, down the neck and ear, so when ever they swallow it hurts, or if they don't swallow for a while and then do swallow it hurts real bad. When babies are hurting and they can't tell you they can get very upset and sooky la la. Monitor her and by all means take her to the Doctor just in case it is something else.

Sounds like possible teething to me... I could always tell when my daughter was teething by how often and how loud she cried. Mothers intuition. She started about 4 months to.
