I'm looking for an audition song from a Broadway musical for a female girl about 11-12 years old. Please don't suggest "Wicked" or similar-type shows- yes, Wicked is a great musical, but honestly, the range will be horrific for someone so young who hasn't developed her belting power yet.

Basically, the song should be:
- Uptempo
- Alto-Low Soporano Range
- Broadway
- Not inappropriate - it's for a middle school production!

Thanks in advance, everyone. :)

My daughter's favorite audition song would probably be perfect for you, My New Philosophy from You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. If not, try:

Let Me Entertain You - Gypsy
The Lonely Goatherd - The Sound of Music (not nearly as overdone as My Favorite Things!)
What Did I Ever See In Him? - Bye Bye Birdie
I Won't Grow Up - Peter Pan
It's The Hard-Knock Life or You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile - Annie (not as overdone as Tomorrow and Maybe)
You're The Top or It's Delovely - Anything Goes
Always True to You In My Fashion - Kiss Me, Kate
Anything’s Possible (McElligot’s Pool) – Seussical

The Cinderella songs are good as well, but someone else already listed them. The Girl I Mean to Be and Castle on a Cloud are good, but not upbeat. These songs are all for young girls, you said middle school but you didn't say what show and role you want. It's perfectly ok to sing a song meant for someone older if you are doing a junior production and will therefore be performing a role older than yourself. you have to show that age range.

Also, you say your range is alto to low soprano, but between that is mezzo so perhaps you're mezzo?? If you have a voice teacher he/she can tell you.

good luck,
Marianne

I would have to give you a tap on the shoulder for asking not to mention "Wicked..." it is an awesome musical, but it is smart not to audition with a currently popular musical because it is likely that many girls will audition with a piece from it...

You can try...
Castle on a Cloud from Les Miserables
[just ask your accompanist to up the tempo, don't worry it's quite professional.]

The Girl I Mean to Be from The Secret Garden

Good Luck!!! :-)

That's so funny, i was going to say Wicked Defying Gravity. But with that being said, have you looked at something from Anything Goes or The Sound of Music? "Favorite things" from Sound of Music could be nice, it is upbeat...

Whats wrong with the Wizard of Oz, or even Little House on the Prairie?
