I say it should be named after Ray Gravell. Having said that... Strade am Byth!

Dear Turkish Delight,

I had only read the first line of your question when I knew the answer.

I knew Ray very well and was greatly saddened to hear of his death in Majorca last Wednesday when he was only 56.

Ray was the epitome of Welshness and Welsh rugby, he cried when he ran on the pitch to play his first game for Wales.

Ray was in the Scarlets team on that historic day in 1972 when they beat the touring All Blacks team 9-3, and all the pubs in Llanelli ran dry, I know, I helped them a little bit.

As a great tribute to the man and the Scarlets, that All Black team are comming over for his funeral at Stradey on Wednesday, Ray's wish was that his funeral be held there.

Before every home game, Ray who was the President of the club until he died, went into the changing room to encourage the boys.

My son Adrian's greatest memory of Ray was when he was about ten, I inroduced him to Ray, who promptly challenged him to a game of pool in the rugby club, that's the sort of man he was.

As a matter of interest T.D. all Llanelli residents are called Turks, no one knows exactly why.

Maybe Gravell Park, Ray Gravell Memorial Stadium.

There are plenty of groups on facebook calling for the new stadium to be named after Grav but more likely, I think, is that it will be named by whoever sponsors the stadium, with parts of the ground named after Llanelli legends like Grav, Carwyn James, Delme Thomas, Ieuan Evans etc.
