When it hurts all around you abdomen enough that you can't walk through them...then you know its labor! I wenmt to labor and delivery so many times before the right time, but when its time, you definitely can tell.

Change what you are doing...eat something, drink some water, go for a walk, take a shower, take a nap. If they don't stop during these activities...you are in real labor. Braxton Hicks are supposed to stop when you make a change like I mentioned. Also, for me the labor pains felt like there was a belt around my low back and abdomen. When the pain hit it was like someone was pulling it tight. Also, I don't think Braxton Hicks will become regular...like 5 minutes apart with each contraction lasting more than 60-90 seconds.
Good Luck!

You will just know. Its like a little light switch flips in your brain without you even realising it, saying this is it!!!
They will get stronger, more intense and closer togther. Have a read of this to get a better idea.....
Braxton Hicks contractions and sometimes lower back pain are well known by most women. But when and how is this a sign that labor will begin? What is the difference between this and contractions? Most often, these are "pre-labor" contractions, working on softening and thinning your cervix, not bringing the baby down and out. But, if you notice a pattern to the contractions, if they are longer than 45 seconds to a minute, if they command your attention and you can't talk or move through them, and if they are getting closer and closer together, these are signs of early labor contractions.
This is from a great website...

Best of luck and trust your instincts. You will know when it is the real thing, its unmistakeable!
Good luck

I was worried about this too. I can't really describe the difference, but I knew!
