Yes, I have...

I became homeless after my mother died when I was 18...the bank foreclosed on the house and I didn't have anywhere else to go...I stayed from pillar to post...friend's house, this relative, that relative...eventually I ended up at a youth shelter here in Houston called the Covenant House...not a bad place as shelters go...beat the hell out of sleeping on the streets, anyway...I got a job, saved some money, and got an apartment. I eventually ended up getting laid off from that job and subsequently was evicted from my apartment. My pride told me I could not go back to Covenant House, so again, I went from pillar to post...here and there...but I ended up running into one of the case managers at the shelter who talked me into going back, that there was no shame in asking for help. So I did. I have been blessed to be able to keep a roof over my head since then, but there are so many out there who are in worst situations than I have been in, and some through no fault of their own. Some don't realize that there are a lot of us who are just one or two paychecks away from being homeless. I always keep that in the back of my mind.

***One of the answerers stated that "staying at your friend/relative's house does not count as being homeless." Well, maybe not technically, but having been in those situations, I can tell you that it's just as bad as being homeless because you never know when that person gets tired of you living there and decide to put you out. Family or friend, notwithstanding.

Yes, about 7-8 years ago, after my X-Husband and I separated. We were living in a extra home his parents owned, so I was the one who got locked out. I have a Toyota 4x4, that was my home for a few months. I would drive up to the Mtns. get as far away from civilization as possible, find the worst trail I could find, put it in 4 low and go till the road ended. It was me, and my Pitbull Rancho...We'd get a fire going, eat something i brought, and then come sleepy time we'd crawl into the cab, and he'd be my pillow all night!..(he was warm and didnt move all night!)... We'd hike around a bit the next day, take the truck and see what kinda mud, or rocks i could go play in. Mostly id sit and cry ...It was a lonely, and helpless feeling, Id stay until my food/gas/water ran out, (2-3 days) then come back to town to get supplies...then do it all over again. A few months of this felt like an eternity. I wish that upon no one... It SUCKS!

No and I thank God for that every day. This life is not an easy one to live and I would never look down on the homeless b/c who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Yes, I have been homeless, and it was during my second marriage, where my husband lost his job and I didn't make enough money to support him, my daughter and myself...
We had our home taken away from us by the bank and we moved into my mom's garage and lived with packed boxes all around us and slept in the garage...
It was cold in there in winter...
We did this a couple of months and then got divorced...
Then I moved into a very small apartment I could afford alone...

No and I'm very fortunate that I haven't been. I've seen homeless people on the streets and even worked at a homeless shelter as a cause and I can tell you, all who have not been left on the street to starve are blessed.

Yes, I had just gotten out of Prison in 2004. They gave me a bus ticket to Nashville and $30 bucks. I didn't have my wallet or anything else except what I brought with me from prison. By the time I got to Nashville it was past 5pm. So I could not get any money from my bank and I didn't have enough to get a room anywhere and all the Shelters closed their doors at 5pm. I wound up under a bridge watching the river go by and waiting for the sun to rise.

I've been without a house but not a home.
Thankfully, at the time, I owned a real nice trailer and had some friends that let me plug into their house for several months while I got back on my feet.
Now I own my own house out right.

Despite working full time, I can't afford rent. I would be homeless if my parents didn't let me live with them.
