Posada was a big signing by the Yankees and we have to hope that Mariano follows soon. I would hope that Cashman holds to his restraint and keeps his top pitching prospects like Joba, Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. We have several 2nd tier pitchers that may enticed the Twins to deal Santana but we may have to give up a Melky to do it. I am not enamored with Miguel Cabrera and it may take a lot of our youth to get him. I would rather sign Lowell for $$ than trade young talent away.

no longer being a Yankee fan, i'd think of if Santana would desire on hand for Kennedy and Cabrera, they'd be inquisitive approximately it. i do no longer think of that the Twins would do this deal besides the undeniable fact that. i think of the ask for Santana would be greater like Hughes, Chamerlain and somebody like Tabata or Sanchez. If that replaced into the deal, if I have been a Twins fan, i'd like it and if I have been a Yankee fan, i'd hate it. Given the small marketplace shrewdness of the Twins, there is not any way they are on the dropping end of a commerce, particularly with the Yankees. For them it truly is, are you prepared to lose in this deal for the sake of having the superb pitcher interior the majors. I nonetheless think of the yank's administration is happy with that. Time will tell. Edit: If the Yankees grant Cabrera and Kennedy and the pink Sox grant Ellsbury, Buchholz and yet another prospect, in case you have been Minnesota, which way would your head be turning. If a team isn't prepared to lose long term in this deal, they gained't land Santana.

After the top two arms in Hughes and Joba and perhaps even Kennedy there is a pretty decent drop off in talent. If the Twins and Marlins were to deal those players the Yankees would have to part with I'm betting at least two of them, probably all three to get the pair plus something. Just because the Yankees want a player doesn't mean they automatically get them. Teams with far deeper systems are looking at both of these guys.

Twins would probalby want Cano and one of the pitchers for Santana, or perhaps Melky Cabrera.

Marlins would definately want one of either Joba or Hughes, and probalby would want Kennedy as well.

It looks like the Yankees will have to give up too much for Miguel Cabrera. The Yankees shouldn't part with Hughes, Chamberlain, or Kennedy. It would be cool for the Yankees to get Santana, but the Yankees will have to give up a lot for him as well.

I don't think that the Yankees are in the bidding for those two guys, if they are going to try for them they will wait until free agency. The two teams involved are pretty savvy about prospects and young players to go after, they will want one of the big three arms and a position guy for each player. Santana and Cabrera are not gaurunteed to stay in NY past one year so I do not see the Yankees mortgaging the future that they have been trying to build for a short term gain with these two guys. I definitley do not see them doing both deals. You may see both of those guys in pinstripes but it will be through free agency.

Both of these players will become free agents after the 2008 season and their teams don't have to deal them now. Both the Twins and Marlins don't want to go to arbitration because they know they will have to pay these players a lot of money. The problem the Yankees have is that both the Twins and Marlins will want solid young players and the Yankees would have to give up some of their young pitchers to get these players and I don't believe they are willing to do that. I would say the chances the Yankees get either of these players this year is small.

Well, first and foremost, Mariano is next to be signed. It will be either Johan Santana, or Miggy not both. We need a top of the rotation starter, proven starter. Santana is the man, we must get him. We are so in need of that one pitcher that can step in and be lights out when they despartley need it. I love wang, but we do not need a contact pitcher at the top, we need power pitching strikeout machine!

Just stay away from CC Sabathia and I will be fine.
I cannot picture CC in pinstripes. He looks too good in an Indians uni. Otherwise, I don't care who the Yankees sign although I think Trot Nixon might look good in pinstripes...lol.

I am not sure why Yankee fans can't simply sit back for a year or two and enjoy their team building again instead of concentrating on 'what big names can we trade for'. It hasn't seemed to work well in the recent past.

Isn't it sweeter to see the fruits of your labour displayed there, on the diamond and say 'I remember seeing him in his rookie year", rather than "I remember when he was on X Team and we totally gave away some of the future for him"

It depends on who they would have to give up. Don't look for Cashman to willy nilly give up the young arms that we have. The Yankees would definately like to have Santana.
