My roommate and I were just given the opportunity to receive a new table for our living room. When I initially informed him, he told me "I like our old table," obviously indicating he wanted to keep that one. I convinced him however to at least look at the other one in place, and we could compare which looked better.

Basically now, he's giving me an "No, it's cool. We can get rid of the old one. I know you're more into the new one than I am into the old one."

I personally would like to find a middle road somehow. Any ideas??

Burn the old table and keep the new. Who cares about a middle road when the other person gives in to your demands. In our society winning is everything, so stop being a pansy and just win already. Empathy will only get you friends and admirers. Winning will get you respect and fame. Which of these sets of characteristics do you value most? If you can't decide, flip a coin and accept the outcome. Your future depends on your values.

I'm not very good at my tables but as for middle roads: don't think you will find one there, think you may be stuck with the table.

hit your roommate in the head with an axe and decorate the place yourself. Make sure you have a way to access his bank account and a place to put his corpse before you do it though.

It is a roommate apartment. It is not like you are going to be there forever. Quit stressing.

Find his weak point and use it to convince him into changing his decision otherwise you will keep wasting your time and he will never change his decision.
