It's not right to say it, but if it was against the law, then racist words towards any race should be banned also. My daughter was called a racist name by a black kid at school and nothing was done about it, if she would have said anything racial against him, she would have been in deep poo, but it's not a problem when he said it to her, where is that fair?

I don't agree with Jenn the "N" word is not just a word!!
But we can't make it against the law to say the "N" word because we have free speech in this country.

It should never be against the law for any one to say any word, unless it is in a way that incites public panic such as yelling "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater. The "N word" is a raciest and nasty thing to say, but freedom of speech is more important than outlawing offensive words.

Don't we have more substantive issues to deal with than regulating the N-word? Can it be used in writing? Can children read "Huckleberry Finn" or "To Kill a Mockingbird"?
Or maybe this plot was cooked up by the white racists, since the N-word is mostly used by blacks now, so blacks will be disproportionately represented in the language penal system.
Can the N-word be used in academic studies?
I think I'd prefer to have the cops catching criminals rather than pottymouths.

That would be stupid. The word "fat" offends me. The word "old" offends my mother. The phrase "dumb blonde" offends a lot of people. So do many of the words that are censored here on Y!A (f*ck, f*g, f*gg*t, @$$, pr!ck) and the list goes on.

I hate dis, dat, dem, u no, cuz, OMG, and all of that gibberish with a flaming purple passion. Are you going to ban all of that, too?

Maybe you were offended by my use of the word stupid. Does that mean I shouldn't have the right to use it? And if I don't, then are you willing to give up the right to use it as well?

And how about super-goody-two-shoes types who don't even like to hear gosh, darn, dang, and crap?

It shouldn't be against the law, it still a part of freedom of speech. If you decide to make it a law...might as well put cracker, flip, haji, and etc. Honestly I think it's just a trend that will eventualy wears out.

Why stop at the "N" word? How about the other racial insults for various races, creeds, country of origin, sexual genders, deformities, mental health, political belief, neighborhood, height, weight, hair color, and on and on and on. . .

You can not legislate morality. You can not pass enough laws to make everyone sensitive and well mannered.

In a free society we are stuck with the thugs and clods that insult and embarrass us all.

Henceforth it shall be illegal to use the word "Ninny".

I don't think it should be illegal. Just like I don't think the word cracker should be illegal.

Context goes a long way. Although I think that people assume when someone uses that word it comes with negatives and more often than not does.

"I think I will eat a cracker tonight"

What do you mean by the word "N" if it means No, then it has to be used, remember people get abused and sexually abuse that word has to play a role. In court they always ask did she say No? then they take it from there. Why cant we stop using the word " Cant " because it doesnt exist to me.

No, thats just silly, if we ban that N word, that would probably set a precedence for other words to be banned of the similar ilk and then other words which are of a lesser nature get banned and then where would our vocab be in the future.....
