This is the only question I will ask that doesn't relate to the Middle East conflict, but I am really worried about my own life. I believe I am addicted to distracting technology. I also believe I need to get over this addiction. I need to stop:

1. Playing video games
2. Watching television
3. Watching videos on youtube
4. Researching random things on the internet dealing mostly with games
5. stop researching the Middle East situation that is occurring right now since I can not do anything to solve it or affect it
6. stop researching into the more credible UFO cases using the internet and television
7. Stop researching information about countries in the world
8. Stop eating whenever I get stressed out
9. Stop playing gameboy games completely

I want to make sure that work comes first, but it is hard, it isn't as if I can just get rid of the television, or the computer. So, I want some plans on how to really crack down on this and get myself away from the distracting technology.

Can I get some thought out answers instead of something like Just do it, or go ahead and do your work. Thanks for answering!

Your going to have to have a lot of self discipline here. Just as with any addiction, be it drugs, alcohol, gambling, whatever.. it all has to be dealt w/pretty much the same. You won't be able to just go "Cold Turkey" and quit everything, all together, at once. Start off easy at first. Make a promise to yourself, that when you get home and would normally turn on the t.v. or p.c. that you will hold off for a specific amount of time.. Do work related things, chores, eating, anything to occupy yourself for say to begin with 20 min.? Then allow yourself exactly 1 hour to be on the p.c.. Then take another break, do something else, take a bath, anything! Allow yourself t.v. time, set an alarm to go off when your time is up. Then do something different, call a friend, play w/the dog or kids, call a chat line etc....
Do these steps for awhile, slowly over time, cut down your t.v./p.c. time, even if just shaving off a min. a week is what u need to do to get threw it, thats fine. Just don't regress.!!. keep moving forward..! Sit down and make a list of everything you would like to do with your time now that those things wont occupy the majority of it anymore... May take awhile to find OTHER things to do, but you'll get more ideas as time goes on... Baby steps...will always get you where you want to be.. slowly but surely!

I find the computer really distracting, too:P.
I tried this before; I don't know if it'll work for you. It sort of worked for me:
Try finishing up all of your work before you turn on the gameboy, computer, or TV. It's hard, but when I put my mind to it, I can concentrate a lot. Maybe you find it harder to concentrate, but if you really concentrate, you can do it:)
Did you know that it takes four times as long to finish something while doing something on the computer at the same time? It's true!!
So I would rather finish up all of my work before I do the computer.
Good luck, and I'm hoping for the best.
